A complex conversation about immigration is intertwined with the story of a Oaxacan man who immigrates to the United States and becomes a fruit picker and activist.

In an attempt to grow a sustainable farm crop on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, Alex White Plume's family planted industrial hemp, the non-psychoactive relative of marijuana – legally grown under tribal law. Armed and armored federal agents subsequently raided and destroyed the crop and served White Plume with federal civil charges. Filmed over four years, Standing Silent Nations tells the story of this Lakota family's struggle to retain tribal identity and tribal sovereignty against the odds of history and current government policy.

Throughout the centuries, generations of indigenous peoples of the Americas have performed social dances for entertainment and storytelling purposes. The Native Spirit Dancers, led by Brian Hammill (Ho-Chunk Nation), continue this tradition as they share the social and intertribal dances representing various Native nations from the across the United States and Canada.

Five short films by Native directors Dustinn Craig (White Mountain Apache/Navajo), Velma Craig (Navajo), Andrew Okpeaha MacLean (Inupiat), Cedar Sherbert (Kumeyaay), Nanobah Becker (Navajo), and Shannon Letandre (Ojibwe/Cree) capture the spirit celebrated in the Remix exhibition.

Letter from an Apache (1983, 12 min.) Barbara Wilk. An animated film tells the remarkable story of Carlos Montezuma, or Wassajah, who became one of the first American Indian medical doctors.
